KATO – N SCALE GE ES44AC LOCOMOTIVES

New From Kato- The ES (Evolution Series) of locomotives is built by GE Transportation Systems and designed to
meet the U.S. EPA’s Tier 2 locomotive emissions standards that took effect in 2005. These Evolution Series
locomotives are equipped with AC traction motors and are powered by a newly designed “GEVO-12” 12-cylinder
engine that produces the same power as the 16-cylinder AC4400CW, but with fewer emissions and greater fuel
economy. It also carries a redesigned air-to-air dual-fan heat exchanger, which gives it its distinct “oversized”
radiator; a common spotting feature for these new locomotives.
This run we are doing various special schemes; CP #8757 was brought into service on September 30th, 2021, which
is known as Orange Shirt Day and Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The Every Child Matters
locomotive was painted in orange, this locomotive honors the children who never returned from Canada’s
Residential Schools, as well as those who survived. The locomotive is meant to spread awareness about this
Indigenous day of remembrance and the tragic history of genocide associated with Residential Schools.
CP #8781 is the first engine to wear the Hapag Llyod branding to commemorate the long-standing partnership
between the two companies and the freight services they provide. Along with that, we will be running brand new
CSX locomotives that feature throwback markings to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and Seaboard System
Railroad. Finally, we’ll also be running some new Union Pacific ES44s. UP Road Number 5395 stands out amongst
the crowd with the American flag proudly displayed in the front of the engine.
